Privacy Policy
Last updated: 8 October 2026
WebPageGazer does not send what you check, what it fetches, or anything about your browsing to us. No account is needed.
1. What is stored only on your device
The following is kept in the browser's extension storage
(storage.local and IndexedDB). Except as described in section 2, it never leaves your device.
- The URLs of the target sites (the websites you use the Tool to check for changes), and which part of each page you picked
- What was fetched (the most recent copy, kept so the next fetch can be compared against it; for a watch where you choose “Past content to keep”, also the content of that many earlier updates)
- The changes that were detected
- Your settings, such as the interval between checks and webhook URLs
When you delete a registration in the Tool, it is not deleted right away: the registration and its fetched content and history stay on your device for a period so that you can restore them (30 days by default; you can choose 7, 14, 30 or 90 days, or until you delete them yourself). They are deleted when that period ends, or when you choose to delete them permanently.
Removing the extension deletes all of it.
2. What is sent outside your device
WebPageGazer sends information off your device only in the following cases.
- Requests to target sites. Your own browser fetches those pages, the same way it would if you opened them yourself. It may also fetch the site's robots.txt (which says what may be fetched) and the site's icon. The site therefore sees your IP address and similar request details.
- The webhook destination you configured. Discord, Slack, Microsoft Teams, Google Chat and ntfy are supported. If, and only if, you set one up, the detected changes (including the display name and the target site's URL) and notices that a page can no longer be checked are sent there. If you do not, nothing is sent.
- Fetching announcements, the version history and the guide from this site. The extension may fetch a small configuration file from this site to check whether there is an announcement and what the version history says. When you open “Guide & FAQ”, it also loads the guide page from this site. These requests carry nothing that identifies you and nothing about what you check.
-
Usage statistics (Google Analytics).
This is off by default.
Only if you turn on “📈 Help us improve” in Settings does the extension send
the kind of action and how often it happened to Google Analytics, operated by Google LLC,
so that we can decide what to improve.
What is sent — the name and count of events such as starting the extension, adding or deleting a registration, detecting an update and sending a notification. The version of the extension. An identifier generated at random for your device.
What is never sent — the URLs of target sites, which part of each page you picked, what was fetched, your webhook destination, and the display names you chose. None of these are sent.
The identifier is a random value and is not linked to your name, e-mail address, or anything else that identifies you. For how Google handles it, see the Google Privacy Policy. - Opening the contact form. Only if you press “✉️ Send feedback or a request” in “Guide & FAQ” does the extension open the form (Google Forms, operated by Google LLC) with your display language, the version of the Tool and your browser type (e.g. macOS / Chrome 153) filled in. These three reach Google LLC when the form opens. The URLs you monitor and the fetched content are not included.
3. Analytics
In the extension, analytics is off by default. It sends to Google Analytics only if you turn on “📈 Help us improve” in Settings. You can turn it off at any time, and while it is off nothing at all is sent.
This website (webpagegazer.com) likewise uses Google Analytics for visit statistics only if you allow it. We ask once, the first time you open the site, and keep your answer only in your browser. If you answer “Don’t send”, nothing is sent afterwards. You can change your answer at any time under “Visit statistics” at the bottom of every page. If you allow it, the pages you visit, the referring site, your browser type and an approximate region are sent to Google. What the extension sends is limited to the list in section 2 above, and never includes what you check.
Fonts, styles and images are served from this site itself. Apart from Google Analytics, nothing is loaded from a third-party server.
4. Advertising
WebPageGazer shows no advertising and uses no affiliate links.
5. Permissions
These are the permissions the extension asks for, and what each is used for.
storage— to keep your settings and fetched content on your device-
unlimitedStorage— so that what you saved is not deleted by the browser on its own. When a device runs low on space, browsers may delete data an extension has stored. If that happened, the previous content and the update history would be lost. This permission is used only to be excluded from that automatic deletion. What it protects is stored only on your device. What is sent outside your device is only what section 2 lists. alarms— to run processing at a set intervalnotifications— to tell you about updates through browser notificationsscripting— to let you pick the part you watch, on the page itself; to mark the changed part on the page; and to read pages whose content is drawn by JavaScript. It is used only in tabs the extension opens itselftabs— to wait for a tab opened to read a page drawn by JavaScript to finish loading, and then close it; to reuse the tab of the extension’s own screen; and, only when you click the toolbar icon, to put that tab’s address into “Add a monitor”. It does not otherwise read or record the addresses or titles of your tabs- Access to target sites — we do not ask for access to all sites up front. You are asked about one site at a time, when you register it. When you permanently delete a registration and no other registration or notification destination uses that target site, the extension gives up its access to that site.
-
history(optional) — requested only if you use the feature that reads pages drawn by JavaScript. It is used to remove the page that was opened for reading from your browsing history.
Please note. The removal facility the browser provides deletes every visit to that URL. There is no way to remove a single visit. So your own visits to that page are removed along with ours. Only your local browsing history is affected; nothing is sent anywhere.
6. About the Chrome Web Store policies
Information handled by WebPageGazer is used in accordance with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
What the extension obtains is limited to the list in section 2 above, and all of it serves the single purpose of checking pages for changes, and keeping that working and improving. We never sell data to third parties, use it for advertising, or hand it to data brokers.
7. How long information is kept
- What is on your device (your settings, fetched content, history) stays until you remove it. Removing the extension deletes it. A registration you delete is kept for the period you chose (30 days by default) so that you can restore it, and then deleted. How many history entries each registration keeps can be changed in Settings.
- Usage statistics (off by default) follow Google Analytics' own retention settings. Turn it off and nothing further is sent.
- What you send through the contact form (including any email address) is kept in Google Forms as material for improving the Tool, and deleted one year after we receive it.
8. When information leaves the country
Only if you turn on usage statistics or use the contact form, the destination — servers operated by Google LLC — is outside Japan, mainly in the United States. If you use neither, nothing from the extension leaves the country.
Requests to target sites are made by your own browser. If such a site is abroad, your IP address and similar details reach a server in that country, exactly as they would during ordinary browsing. This happens with or without WebPageGazer.
9. Children
WebPageGazer is not directed at children. We do not knowingly obtain information from children.
10. Your rights over your information
What is on your device is yours to inspect and delete at any time. You can take the contents out through “Export and import”. Removing the extension deletes everything. A registration you delete stays restorable for a period, but you can also delete it permanently right away. We do not hold any of it, so we cannot act on a request to disclose or delete it — there is nothing on our side to act on.
If you turned on usage statistics, what has been sent is the randomly generated device identifier together with the kind of action and how often it happened. That identifier cannot be traced back to a person. To stop any further sending, turn it off in Settings.
We do hold what you send through the contact form, including any email address (deleted one year after we receive it). To ask us to delete it sooner, let us know through the contact form.
11. Contact
For questions about this policy or the Tool, please use the contact form (Google Forms). Only if you would like a reply, enter your email address under “Other”. We use it only to reply to you.
12. Changes to this policy
Any change will be announced on this page. If a change would add something that is sent outside your device, we will say so beforehand.
