Ways to use itKnow when notices and terms are rewritten

Hear when notices or terms are rewritten.

School and shop notices, terms of service and privacy policies, software changelogs.
It watches only the text in the spot you choose, and shows what changed side by side.

Sound familiar?

  • I saw the school notice only after the deadline

  • The terms of service changed without my noticing

  • Members-only notices can’t be read until I sign in

→ With WebPageGazerIt watches the text and shows what was rewritten, side by side.

What you get

Changes only to a date shown on the page, or to ads, are not reported.

Told when it changes10/110/210/310/410/510/610/7
Told when it changes10/310/410/510/6
Not told on days nothing changesTold on the day it’s rewritten

Only what changed, side by side

Even in long text, only the rewritten words are shown. The differences can be copied, too.

When it can’t read, it says so

If the page is rebuilt and can no longer be read, you are told, instead of hearing “No change” again and again.

Colour-coded in the extension too

In “Update history”, removed and added parts are shown in colour.

Three steps to start

  1. Pick the text

With the page open, open “Add a monitor” from WebPageGazer on the toolbar, and outline the notice area or the body of the terms with “👀 Pick it on the page”.

  2. Choose what you want to know

Under “What you want to know”, choose “Text changes”.

  3. Check that it reads

When “Check the content” shows the text, press “Add a monitor”.

Good to know

  • Runs only while the browser is open

It works only while your browser is open on your computer. While the browser is closed it pauses, and picks up again when you open it.

  • Every 30 minutes at first

Pages are checked every 30 minutes by default. To go easy on the sites you watch, there is a minimum interval.

  • Skips pages that ask not to be visited

Pages a site asks not to be visited in its robots.txt are not visited (The rules we follow towards the sites).

  • Check the site’s terms yourself

Please check that watching a page doesn’t conflict with that site’s terms.
